Guinea, W. African Dance, Percussion Classes with Mohamed Tounkara
On most Tuesdays, we have an amazing classes of Guinea, West African Percussion & Dance. The schedule is as follows:
  • 6:15-6:45PM Beginning Dance/Community Class $5 Donation (no one turned away for lack of funds)
  • 6:45-8PM: Guinea, W. African Dance (need some experience): $15.
  • 8:15-9:15PM: Guinean Percussion: $15.
  • Take both dance & percussion for $24 and you attend the beginning dance class FREE!
    Youth price: $8 the Guinea Dance or Percussion (both for $15)
    We have classes scheduled on Tuesday, June 29; Tuesdays, July 13, 20 & 27. Tuesdays, August 3, 10, 17.

      FREE/DONATIONS YOUTH EVENT:: Percussion Workshop

    Indian Rhythmic Theory, Vocal Percussion, and Improvisation Workshop taught by Josh Sherman! We are offering a special one-day workshop experience for Youth which accompanies Josh's adult/musician workshop (info for this workshop is below) YOUTH WORKSHOPS:

    We are offering the following experiences for YOUTH for FREE/DONATIONS. Participants will have the opportunity to explore various rhythms, percussion and vocal improvisation:

    Ages 8 and under: 11-11:30AM

    Ages 8-18: 11:30-12:30PM

    FREE. Please donate something if you are able to help support Passport Project's educational programming.

    TEEN/ADULT WORKSHOP:

    This workshop, taught by percussionist Josh Sherman, focuses on using Indian rhythmic theory to increase our ability to understand and communicate in various rhythmic frameworks. This class highly values individuality and development of rhythmic control and playfulness as an extension of one's own personal style of playing.

    Explore the world of rhythm on any instrument, including explorations of rhythmic cycles, Indian rhythms, and polyrhythms, vocal percussion, thematic and structured improvisation.

    Extra assistance for melodic instruments will be given by Shaun Sterling on bass guitar.

    For all levels.

    Bring any instrument that you are comfortable with, or learn through vocals only (traditional drum syllables, or invent your own, also through singing, rap or beatbox, etc.), or come to gather ideas and information to add to your improvisation toolbox.

    The classes are "stand-alone," and each will have a different focus, so drop-in or come for all four classes for the full experience! Saturdays, July 17, 24, 31 and August 7, 1-2:30PM.

    $50/session (for all four classes)

Explore the world of rhythm on any instrument, including explorations of rhythmic cycles, Indian rhythms, and polyrhythms, vocal percussion, thematic and structured improvisation. All levels. Bring any instrument that you are comfortable with, or learn through vocals only (traditional drum syllables, or invent your own, also through singing, rap or beatbox, etc.), or come to gather ideas and information to add to your improvisation toolbox. The classes are "stand-alone," and each will have a different focus, so drop-in or come for all four classes for the full experience!
